Conversations with Music Greats

LONE STAR CONVERSATIONS is an exciting new web series made in response to COVID-19 and our inability to meet in person as a full ensemble. This web series is comprised of five interviews with the industry’s leading composers and conductors.

Our panel of Frank Ticheli, John Mackey, Julie Giroux, Omar Thomas, and Ian Weinberger represent a diverse, fun, and innovative collection of influential artists that will serve as educational and insightful voices to our online community.

Some unique opportunities to learn about:

Giroux’s experience being the first female composer featured at a US Presidential Inauguration, and the youngest recipient and first female recipient of an Emmy Award for Outstanding Musical Direction, in 1992.
Weinberger’s experience as conductor of the world-famous Broadway production of Hamilton, after planning a career as a high school band director.
Thomas’ experience breaking into the wind band realm by storm.

LONE STAR CONVERSATIONS is a silver lining to a virtual world and is an opportunity not to be missed!

I must say they are very impressive indeed
This is my first encounter with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra and I must say they are very impressive indeed [Converging Cultures, NAXOS]. The opening track, Turina’s attractive La Procession del Rocio just about sums them up. The level of technical execution is stunning with tight ensemble work and impeccable intonation. This technical excellence is supported tonally by a very well rounded full and glowing sound that has an impressive bottom end.

The musicality and level of commitment demonstrated by everyone was nothing short of fantastic
Very seldom does a concert have the power to make everyone involved a better musician and person. This was one of those uniquely special events [Midwest Clinic 2012 performance in Chicago]. The musicality and level of commitment demonstrated by everyone was nothing short of fantastic.

The first song caught my ear like “love at first sight” because the whole orchestra played so well together
It was phenomenal and the LSWO concert was something I absolutely ADORED! The first song caught my ear like “love at first sight” because the whole orchestra played so well together. The french horns and oboes were perfectly tuned and sounded amazing!

The LSWO was the best band I have ever seen and I LOVED it!
The concert was mind-blowing! The LSWO was the best band I have ever seen and I LOVED it! The bassoons and trombones really made the LSWO shine! I didn’t hear one mistake and thanks for letting me be a Lone Star Kid!
