Educational scholarships awarded each season include:

The Jack Stewart Memorial Scholarship

Created in 2015 in memory of John Patrick “Jack” Stewart (1994 – 2014), clarinetist and winner of the 2011 Lone Star Youth Winds concerto competition. Jack elevated the quality of every ensemble he performed with and mentored countless young musicians along the way. Jack’s gentle character and exceptional artistic talent will be greatly missed; his spirit, passion, and musical contributions will be appreciated always by those fortunate to have known him.

Music Changing Lives Scholarships

Awarded by the Lone Star Wind Orchestra since 2008 to support outstanding graduating high school students pursuing a higher education. The LSWO is an ardent advocate of life-long musical involvement and its benefits and believes music can truly change ones’ life. LSWO supports that principle and strives to make a difference in the lives of young musicians by way of educational scholarships.

The Alice and Henry Reeves Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2008 to honor the beloved grandparents of Robert W. Clark, LSWO founder. Their passion, dedication, and love of music is remembered through this annual educational scholarship benefiting area youth. Alice and Henry’s faith, affection and pioneering spirit were instrumental in guiding and inspiring generations of musicians. Alice Davidson Reeves (1899–2004) lived 105 years and continued to play music until the age of 102. Alice’s life-journey is proof that playing music can keep a person young for life. Preference will be given to students demonstrating unique financial circumstance (i.e., first in family to attend college, single parent household, etc.)
