The Lone Star Wind Orchestra (LSWO), under the direction of Music Director Eugene Corporon, celebrates spring as it wraps us its eighth season with Wildflowers: An Afternoon with Percy Grainger. The concert is on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at the Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts in Richardson, Texas. Grainger (1882-1961) is one of the most influential composer-pianists of the 20th century. This concert will celebrate the composer’s contributions to the wind band.
Featuring the Irving Chorale, the LSWO will perform Percy Grainger’s Lincolnshire Posy, Molly on the Shore, Irish Tune from County Derry, Children’s March: Over the Hills and Far Away, The “Gum-suckers” March, Australian Up-Country Tune, Scotch Strathspey and Reel, and Marching Song of Democracy. The Irving Chorale is a community chorus dedicated to refreshing the spirits of its audiences with quality choral music. The Irving Chorale presents a full season of subscription concerts and supporting choral music in the local schools, churches and civic organizations. The Chorale is serving the community and helping to establish the City of Irving as a vital center of a wide variety of cultural experiences. The Irving Chorale is led by Artistic Director Harry Wooten. This collaboration between the LSWO and the Irving Chorale is a wonderful opportunity for two TACA (The Arts Community Alliance) grant award recipients to bring something very special to the community.
Come early and join the LSWO Saxophone section at 2:05 p.m. The concert will showcase six instruments of the saxophone family, including the rare bass saxophone, an instrument class Grainger greatly admired.
“We are thrilled about our first collaboration with the Irving Chorale!” said Christopher Tucker, LSWO Director of Artistic Planning. “We expect this concert to be amazing and hope to see a full house for our Grainger celebration.”
General admission is $20; discounted senior and student tickets are $10; group discounts are also available. Visit www.lonestarwindorchestra.com or call 972.744.4650 to purchase your tickets.
