What do you love most about playing saxophone?

I love playing the many different sizes and types of saxophones, especially on the extreme high and low ends.  If you can play one saxophone, you can play them all!  The saxophone is also capable of playing a wide variety of non-traditional playing techniques.  It’s fun to see what composers incorporate into their music.

Do you have a favorite experience playing with Lone Star?

There are many to choose from!  Travelling to Chicago and San Jose to play for the Midwest and WASBE conferences was great fun.  If I had to pick a favorite concert, it would have to be the concert featuring works by Percy Grainger.  Being a featured soloist is always memorable as well.  I’ve had the opportunity to play works by Bolcom, Broughton, Williams, and Stephenson as a soloist with the LSWO and Lone Star Youth Winds.

What do you like to do outside of playing music?

With my wife being a high school choir director, my son (11 yo) playing the cello, and my daughter (8 yo) playing piano, there seems to be nothing but music going on in my house. In the passing moments where we are not singing/playing, I love playing video games with my son and Barbies with my daughter.  I also watch as many Houston Astros games as possible.  My family is also active at our church, First Baptist Church in Garland.
