In April 2008, the Lone Star Wind Orchestra released its first commercial CD on one of the world’s leading Classical Music label, NAXOS Records. The album titled “American Tapestry” features the Lone Star Wind Orchestra with Music Director Eugene Migliaro Corporon and pianist Richard Shuster.
Randall Foster of NAXOS writes, “John Williams’ arrangement of the Star-Spangled Banner sets the stage for this collection of American works for wind band spanning 100 years. Featuring traditional compositions from the likes of George Gershwin, Howard Hanson, Robert Russell Bennett and John Philip Sousa, as well as contemporary works from the younger generation of American composers, this release will appeal to both the wind band enthusiast and the general music lover.”
Benn Martin of MusicWeb International reviewed the album saying, “Their accomplishment is completely stunning.” “The Lone Star Wind Orchestra from North Texas is one of the finest wind ensembles I have ever had the pleasure to review,” writes critic David Denton.
American Tapestry’s program includes:
John Stafford Smith’s The Star-Spangled Banner (arr. by John Williams)
Joseph Willcox Jenkins’ American Overture
Howard Hanson’s Merry Mount Suite (trans. by John Boyd)
George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue (orch. by Donald Hunsberger)
Christopher Tucker’s Ceremonial Fanfare (on a theme of remembrance)
Steven Bryant’s Radiant Joy
