The Lone Star Wind Orchestra is thrilled to return to Moody Performance Hall for a concert featuring music by acclaimed composer Omar Thomas. Led by Music Director Eugene Migliaro Corporon, the LSWO performs Omar Thomas’s Come Sunday and A Mother of a Revolution along with a tribute to the late Jack Stewart with Frank Ticheli’s Lux Perpetua. Members from the LSWO percussion section will also be featured with the dramatic and visually stunning percussion concerto Renewal by Viet Cuong.
The LSWO invites the whole family to “come Sunday,” November 7th for a program filled with beautiful colors, exciting jazz-inspired riffs, and grand percussive sounds!
About the featured composer:
Described as “elegant, beautiful, sophisticated, intense, and crystal clear in emotional intent,” the music of Omar Thomas continues to move listeners everywhere it is performed. Born to Guyanese parents in Brooklyn, New York in 1984, Omar Thomas has been hailed by Herbie Hancock as showing “great promise as a new voice in the further development of jazz in the future.” While completing his Master of Music Degree, he was appointed the position of Assistant Professor of Harmony at Berklee College of Music at the surprisingly young age of 23. In 2012, Omar was named the Boston Music Award’s “Jazz Artist of the Year.”
