The Lone Star Youth Winds (LSYW) has an updated name and now a new permanent conductor. The Lone Star Wind Orchestra is pleased to present Brian Britt as the next Youth Winds Conductor starting this upcoming 2014-2015 concert season.

“I am very honored to be named to this prestigious position,” says Brian Britt. “Having served as a guest conductor last year, I know firsthand that the students with whom I will be collaborating are wonderful musicians and people. I am excited for the music-making that we will share in the upcoming season!”
Brian Britt is the Director of Fine Arts for the Richardson Independent School District in Richardson, Texas. Britt’s previous teaching and administrative experiences include positions at The University of Oklahoma, Round Rock ISD, Stephen F. Austin State University, Garland ISD, Texas Christian University, Chickasha (OK) Public Schools, and Norman (OK) Public Schools.
Continuing, Britt spoke about his aspirations and goals, “I want the LSYW members to have rehearsal and performance experiences that are both inspirational and transformational. It will be exciting to collaborate with both composers and performing artists as we provide LSYW members with a broad array of music-making opportunities. Selecting repertoire for the ensemble is going to be a lot of fun!”
Brian Britt takes over the leadership of the Lone Star Youth Winds following a period of two seasons with six different guest conductors. The Lone Star Youth Winds, formerly called the LSWO Youth Winds, was instituted in the spring of 2010 under the direction of Dr. Bradley Kent.
“The LSYW counts among its members some of the very finest wind and percussion performers in the DFW area,” Brian Britt states. “Their commitment to collaborative musical excellence is truly inspiring. As I see it, the sky is the limit for what this ensemble can achieve, and it promises to be an exciting journey exploring their musical capabilities. I am honored to collaborate with these young artist musicians and can’t wait for the season to start!”
