LSWO Youth Winds Presents “American Tributes”

The Lone Star Wind Orchestra (LSWO) invites you to pay tribute to the dream of Martin L. King Jr., the beauty of Aurora Borealis, the bright lights of New York City, and the grace of faith & love when the LSWO Youth Winds present “American Tributes: A Youth Winds Concert” at the Dallas City Performance Hall on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 2:30 p.m.

The program will feature Mark Camphouse’s Homage to a Dream, William Owens’s Carnegie Anthem and Northern Lights, and Robert Sheldon’s Metroplex. In addition, the LSWO Youth Winds will dazzle the audience with the first movement from James Beckel’s The Glass Bead Game and movements from James Barnes’ Symphony No. 3. The program will feature Andrea Mayfield on the horn.

The LSWO Youth Winds are thrilled that William Owens will be in attendance at the concert! Join us in the hall at 2:05 p.m. for an interview with the accomplished composer. The LSWO Youth Winds will be led by Douglas Stotter, Director of Bands at the University of Texas at Arlington, and Youth Winds Artistic Administrator and Assistant Conductor Andrew Tucker. Andrew Tucker also serves as Director of Bands at Rockwall Heath High School, where he also serves as the conductor of the Mighty Hawk Band and the Wind Ensemble.

The LSWO Youth Winds is made up of 60 woodwind, brass, and percussion players who are in grades 9-12. The LSWO Youth Winds musicians are selected from the most outstanding young musicians from the North Texas community.

“We are looking forward to having William Owens and Douglas Stotter join us at this concert,” said Christopher Tucker, LSWO Director of Artistic Planning. “The LSWO Youth Winds are very excited to perform this concert for the community!”
